Skip the print queue and make springs on demand with this clever PLA filament spring maker. Designed as a 3D printed workshop tool for makers who need quick compression springs, this compact mold transforms raw 3mm PLA filament into tough, flexible springs that outperform printed alternatives.
The secret? By twisting the filament instead of printing layers, you eliminate shear planes entirely, so your springs can handle real stress without splitting. The mold itself measures just 3/4 inch by 3 inches tall, making it easy to store in any tool drawer.
While the included design produces compression springs, the creator notes you can adapt the concept for torsion springs with different molds, or wrap filament around a dowel (sides touching) to create extension springs instead. It's a simple, reusable solution that keeps your project moving.
