What it does

You plug the cable in and the phone shows the cable but does not actually charge. The cause is almost always a wad of pocket lint at the bottom of the port. This hook gets it out in about ten seconds.

The thin tip slips into a USB-C, Lightning, or micro USB port without scratching the contacts. Drag it down the side, twist, and pull the lint out the way you would clean a tiny drain. Charging usually springs back to life on the first try.

Keep one on your desk and one on your keychain. A small repair tool that saves you a phone shop visit.
