PLA vs PETG: which one should your print use?

Almost every 3D print is made from one of two plastics: PLA or PETG. Here is the difference, without the jargon, so you can pick the right one.

PLA: the everyday one

PLA is made mostly from plants like corn. It prints clean and sharp, holds fine detail, and comes in every color. It is the right pick for toys, decor, organizers, desk stuff, and gifts. Most things in our shop are PLA.

The one catch: heat. PLA can soften above about 130 degrees F. Keep it out of a hot car and out of direct summer sun and it lasts for years.

PETG: the tough one

PETG is the same family of plastic as a water bottle. It bends before it breaks, shrugs off heat, and does not mind being outside. Pick it for workshop parts, car accessories, garden gear, and anything that gets stress or lives outdoors.

Which should you pick?

Indoors, pretty, or fun: PLA. Outdoors, hot, or takes a beating: PETG. Not sure? When you upload your file, ask us and we will help you choose. More detail lives on our materials page.
